Michael Baynger’s talents cover a wide spectrum of multimedia and
technology domains. Originally from a fine arts background, Baynger has
applied his technical and creative problem solving skills to a variety of
commercial software applications.
After some remarkable achievements in high resolution graphics during the
1980’s, Baynger joined the CorelDraw engineering team in 1990 as their
special effects visionary. He designed and implemented such features as
dynamic blends and ‘blend on a path’, PowerLines and PowerClips and played
a critical role in many other key features.
Focusing later on usability and user interface design, Baynger headed up
Corel’s first user interface design/engineering team and later co-founded
Corel's usability engineering team. Baynger, working with colleague Tom
Hoferek, conceived of a revolutionary user interface system that formed the
design backbone of the highly successful PrintHouse Version 1. This easy to
use and flexible interface was centered on one of the first fully
integrated and interactive help systems in the commercial software industry
and virtually guaranteed success for the target audience of novice
graphical software users.
As a lead designer and chief software engineer in Corel’s multimedia group,
Baynger produced ‘The Art of Playboy’ – a multimedia CD-Rom in which he
pioneered new methods and techniques for development of cost effective,
rich media content, foreshadowing the look and feel of Flash applications
that followed years later.
Joining the aggressive team of another start up, Televitesse, which later
became March Networks, Baynger took his problem solving skills into the
world of broadband applications and large scale networked DVR systems. His
clear envisioning and prototyping work played a key role in winning such
clients as Wal-Mart, Fifth-Third Bank, and others.
As an independent consultant, Baynger applies his passion for invention and
user-centered design to a wide variety of projects from web
site/application design to call center management systems.
Michael Baynger works out of Toronto and Ottawa.
