  Innovative Software Design

Welcome

Thank you for stopping by my web site. It features a collection of stories and illustrations that describe the many kinds of software design activities I have done since 1986.

I have had the pleasure of working both as an independent consultant and within the commercial software industry. I find this line of work fascinating because it offers such marvelous opportunities to exercise creative problem solving techniques.

I'm currently running an independent practice as a usability specialist - or a 'user advocate' as I like to call it. What does this mean? Basically, I act as a liason between end users and software producers. I create application designs that capture users' real needs and I produce docs that speak clearly to the engineers who do all 'heavy lifting' of software production.

My background is not computer science but fine arts. Long ago I came to the conclusion that if you can solve the problem of making a painting work, you can solve almost any kind of problem. The trick is translating the basic creative skills into different 'languages'. It seems to have worked, as you will be able to see here at this site.

The site is still growing and there may be parts here today that weren't here yesterday. Enjoy!

Michael
